Ishwaranand’s Practice Guidance for the Night of Maha Shivaratri – 15 February 2026

Today we do not need to achieve anything.
We do not need to prove anything.
We do not need to experience anything special.
Today we are simply here.
Shivaratri is not a celebration and not a night when something big is supposed to happen.
It is a night when we do not need to be someone and do not need to do anything.
Usually, we always have something to do.
Something to think about.
Something to fix.
Something to understand.
The night helps this to calm down.
Not by forcing it.
Not by trying.
Simply because there is no longer a need to keep moving all the time.
Shiva is not a feeling and not a special state.
Shiva is that in which all feelings and thoughts appear.
Thoughts may come.
Feelings may come.
The body may feel something.
But today we do not need to do anything with them.
They do not need to say anything.
Usually we ask: “What am I feeling?”
or
“What is happening to me?”
Today this is not important.
Today another question may appear:
What is it that is always here, even when I feel nothing?
We do not need to create silence.
If there is silence, that is fine.
If there is not, that is also fine.
Shivaratri does not ask for peace or silence.
It asks only one thing: Is there a need to do something?
And today — there is not.
If you notice the urge to fix something or to do something the “right” way, then do not do it.
Not because it is wrong, but because right now it is not necessary.
Shiva does not need our effort.
It does not need us to try.
It does not need us to believe anything.
Shiva is what remains when we stop trying.
Today there is nothing we need to remember.
There is no need to explain later what happened.
If it feels like nothing happened, that is completely fine.
That is accurate.
Yajña does not begin with doing.
It begins when we stop interfering.
The fire is not here to change anything.
It is here to show that nothing needs to be added.
If something moves, let it move.
If something calms down, let it calm down.
Today we do not need to observe or fix anything.
Today there is nothing we need to do.
If the feeling arises that everything should be done “correctly,” simply notice it
and let it pass.
Right now, there is no need to make an effort.
A mantra may appear and it may disappear.
If it disappears, do not bring it back.
If it stays, do not hold on to it.
Sound does not lead anywhere.
Silence is not a goal.
Everything is fine when we are not holding on to anything.
This yajña does not end suddenly.
It slowly dissolves.
If movement comes afterward, let it come.
If words come, let them come.
But we do not need to make a story out of them.
If it feels that nothing happened, that is right.
Shiva does not leave a memory.
It leaves space where there is no constant need to interfere.
Let the night do its work.
We do not need to help.
